D&D Design, Inc. was incorporated in 1997 by Marvin Hankins and Dan Diotte for the purpose of designing, manufacturing and marketing the Moto-Tote line of motorcycle carriers.

Once Upon a Time:

In 1996, Dan, an avid motorcycle rider, started looking for a way to haul his bikes without the hassle of a trailer or truck. He wanted an easy way to haul his bike on the back of a vehicle like the bicycle riders do. So, he looked and looked for a product to buy and, in fact bought a couple of hitch-mounted motorcycle carriers. These were very dissapointing and Dan said, "I can't believe they actually sell this stuff! Some people have no pride! It looks like they built it in their back yard!!!".

I'll Do it Myself:

So Dan, being the resourceful guy that he is (and impulsive), decided to build his own motorcycle carrier! Well, needless to say, it's never as easy as it looks: It turned into a much larger project than expected. But, after lots of persistence, he came up with a design that he liked so he decided to have it built by a professional fabricator to his specifications - he is very picky! (he didn't actually build the final version himself in his garage - you've gotta know your limits). The finished product was very nice: Laser cut and powder coated black - So nice, in fact, that all his riding buddies wanted one. At this point Dan had spent way too much on this crazy impulse - should have just used one of the cheapo ones he bought but it was too late for that! so he said, "Sure!". He had several more built, sold them and has never looked back!

Phase II:

Within a few months, Dan realized he was going to have to expand production so he moved to Phase II (maybe Plan B would be a better choice of words): Rope his buddy Marvin into this wonderful money-making adventure! "We'll just sit on the beach answering phone calls while we drink Corona and become millinonaires!" Yeah right! Dan was never a good businessman and apparently neither was Marvin because he proceeded to pump money into this thing like there was no tomorrow!

Here We Are:

All these years later - what started as a whim has become a full time obsession - we finally did figure it out after years of effort, research, experience, help from lots of nice people (including Donna Porter), hard knocks, and above all - lots of hard work! What has carried us is the passion to produce a superior design and superior product that last for many years. We want to make your eyes light up! Believe me, we have paid our dues! But the result is something we are very proud of - we can honestly tell you that our motorcycle carriers are THE BEST!
